AWS Expands in Greece and Cyprus

Expansion follows launch of Amazon CloudFront location in Athens and signed Memorandum of Understanding with Ministry of Digital Governance in 2020 to build a modern and digital Greece powered by cloud computing

The opening of the first Amazon Web Services (AWS) office in Greece and specifically in Athens.

This is a very important development as the information initially states that the American company did not intend to proceed with this move. It took ten months and 340 people to get involved in order to implement the decision, while this is the fastest approval the company has ever given. This AWS investment will also lead to the creation of new jobs, while it will also proceed with free training programs for the unemployed.

As mentioned in a relevant announcement, the new Greek office is part of AWS’s ongoing investment in Greece, as the company continues to expand its team that supports the growing number of customers and partners in Greece. The office will support organizations of all sizes, including startups, businesses and public sector organizations, as they make the transition to the AWS Cloud.

The Greek AWS Partner Network (APN) welcomed the opening of the AWS office in Greece. APN includes tens of thousands of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and systems integrators around the world. These partners create innovative solutions and services in an AWS environment and the APN network supports them in business, technical, marketing and strategic go-to-market. Information systems integration companies (APN SIs) such as Accenture, CloudNomads , Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers and others, work with clients in the private and public sectors in Greece, such as municipalities, academic institutions, public service broadcasters, public infrastructure, public energy companies and public utilities, supporting in  an AWS environment, the development of extremely critical applications and the provision of a full range of monitoring services (automation), automation and management of the cloud computing environment (cloud) of their customers.

Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) in Greece that use AWS services to provide software to customers worldwide include Blendo, Interxion, Lenses.io and Upgrade. Customers in Greece can easily search, try, develop and purchase AWS software at the AWS Marketplace.

AWS provides secure computing power, data storage, networking, databases, but also advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in the form of on-demand or pay -as-you-go services to its customers. Some of the most successful startups internationally such as Airbnb and Netflix, large companies such as BMW, Formula 1 and Twitter, as well as public bodies such as the European Space Agency, the European Commission, the UK Department of Justice and NASA use AWS services to innovate, become more flexible and keep their information systems operating costs low.
